Saturday brought an excellent day for running rugby to Trafford MV's MacPherson Park however it was the visitors, Warrington RUFC, that were full of running. A weakened Trafford team were left trailing in their wake and chasing shadows.

Trafford had players stepping up from the 2nd XV plus players carrying injury as their tough season continues to take it's toll. Warrington came into the game in 2nd place in the league and their strength across the pitch was evident. The forward pack provided a steady flow of good ball and a strong running back line did the damage on an under threat home defence.

Scores came frequently for Warrington as they chose their options of bursting through in the centres or moving the ball quickly wide and attacking down the flanks. Trafford lost players to injury and their bench was fully used as continued power play from Warrington took it's toll.

Trafford struggled to stay in contention and as the score ran away from them their only hope was to pick up a losing bonus point which would have been a small consolation. As luck would have it they missed out on that too as tries from Chris Ward, Aaron Booth and Ollie jones left them one score short of the required 4 tries for the bonus point. Luke O'Shea added a couple of conversions to add to Trafford's consolatory score.

The final score of 19 - 92 to Warrington did not flatter the visiting team it was a just reward for a good strong performance. It looks they they will keep pressure on Wilmslow right to the end of the season waiting for a slip up. Trafford MV however need more than a slip up to save them from a likely relegation. With just 5 games left to play Trafford remain firmly rooted to the foot of the table 8 points adrift of fellow strugglers Wigan. The two sides will meet in 2 weeks in an all to play for game at MacPherson Park.
