TMV 2s 32 vs Orrell 2s 26
A warm welcome to 2026 for the mighty MV 2s. Prior to the game we warmed up in a somewhat chaotic fashion with half of our team already on the tanners playing for the 3s. We made it work and Ethan did our warm up, we joined up with the rest of the team 3 minutes before kick off. So, we kicked off without a team run through or any set piece practice, ideal. We made it work somehow, In the first half we decided to play football with Pat and Dylan relentlessly pinning Orrell back into their own half. Frazer managed some key steals in the lineout with the rest of the forwards enjoying a physically tough battle against a hard running big league side. A key advantage we had over Orrell was knowing the rules at a ruck (to some degree). Countless penalties were conceded by our frustrated opposition, allowing us to attack from good positions. From this, we got it wide and Calvin had a field day bouncing and giving his opposite number a day from hell, 2 tries from that man.
That sealed the first half with MV dominance showing and we felt confident going into the second half. In true MV fashion, why make a game easy for yourself. Unfortunately we lost Jordan and Dylan to injuries which caused us to lose a bit of structure and needed to reshuffle. Spencer showed his quality and played in the centres (answer is still a no to you playing 9). We decided to play 80% of the second half in our half which made it increasingly difficult for us. Orrells strong runners were showing were running hard and a tired MV side showed cracks. Thankfully these were only small cracks and our strong tackling prevailed in the end and we managed to grind out a result with 2 break away tries (both without knock on's Dale).
Orrell managed 4 yellow cards in the game big respect to them for that. A big well done to all the forwards who tackled well and carried hard all game with every tackle the wrong side of the law. Scrums and lineouts were solid all game I don't think we lost any all game, stunning. Key mention being Tristan getting in at 6am to which even the opposition commented on the smell coming from our Welsh number 7. who didn’t stop tackling/ carrying for 80mins (I wonder how).
That gives the 2s 5 wins on the bounce, hopefully we only add to this. A big thanks to everyone who played 2 games as well, the graft is much appreciated.
