We have three teams taking the field once again this weekend with two of those teams playing home games at our own MacPherson Park.
The 1st XV will be looking to recover from their shock defeat by De La Salle last weekend. They travel to the coast to take on 3rd placed Southport which will undoubtedly be a tough game. Waiting for the team announcement there is likely to be a few changes to the team with players carrying injuries from the last game, James Webster is like to be out for a while with a bicep injury, captain Danny Burke with a knee problem as a start! This is a great opportunity for squad members to put their hands up and stake a claim for 1st XV rugby. Good Luck to those players travelling to Southport.
Our 2nd XV will be enjoying our new playing surface which has held up well over the recent wet weather. Aldwinian's are the opposition and we are hoping for a well contested games which both sets of players, the referee and spectators can all enjoy. TMV will be looking to improve on their 4th placing against bottom placed Aldwinians - however complacency can be a killer so a good game attitude is essential. Weather conditions are expected to be cold but dry - so wrap up nice and warm! Kick off is at 2.15pm - Bar open 1.00pm.
We also have our 3rd XV playing at home and they will be entertaining Glossop. Pitches have improved tremendously over the last week or so of dry weather which will be a bonus to the players. A tough game should be on the cards against Glossop in top spot against a spirited but struggling MV side who will be desperately be wanting to collect their 2nd win of the season.
Support for the players taking the field would be greatly appreciated - come along and get behind the TMV teams.
In the evening we will be showing the Stormers vs Sale Sharks game in the Clubhouse. Will we have a room full of Saffa's - wait and see. Come along and support the Sharks from afar.
On Sunday our Junior Colts are at playing at Home with Tyldesley as the opposition ko 12.30pm. The same sides played last weekend and Tyldesley went home narrow winners 15-17. We would hope TMV have learned lessons and will turn the tide this weekend.
There is a Quiz Night at the Club on Fri Feb 2nd - get your teams entered - non members welcome to join the fun.
Six Nations Rugby opens also on Friday Feb 2nd with potentially the game of the tournament with France vs Ireland being shown in the Clubhouse. Again non members very welcome to join us for the game.
