No one enjoys playing away at Warrington at the best of times, but this was a particularly unpleasant visit. On a nice sunny day, TMV all arrived in good time and looked the part all walking up in the same gear to the changing rooms, started off nice and positive!
With familiar faces and one unfamiliar face (was good to have you back Mr Kingdon) we had a laugh in the changing room and went for warm up. Arriving at the hard, worn pitch, it was a warm time to be playing rugby.
First 10/15 minutes of the match weren't terrible, tackling was good and we were building our own play, and then the deadlock broke and they went over shortly after we went down to 14 men. Not long after, the Swiss army knife that is Dyos intercepted a pass and was in for a try, one a piece. We ended the first half in great form, leaving one or two tries out on the pitch before half time.
The second half was a different story, our physicality was not up to scratch, and Warrington had plenty of non-stop momentum. A well-worked backs move from TMV led to a great break by Kingdon, putting Glynn in for our second try. Other than that TMV failed to keep the ball, giving away too many penalties and silly passes losing us possession and gifting them more space and momentum.
A big shout out to Jimmy Craven, Andrew Beales and Adam Whitworth who all lead from the front and more needed to be like them - very well played. Saturday showed that we need to play together and we need to up our physical presence on the pitch, something not usually associate with this 2s side but unfortunately that was the case on the day. With just one league game left and a cup final to play we need 3 weeks of non-stop graft from everyone.
The final score was 55 - 10 to Warrington and Player of the Match for Trafford MV was Jimmy Craven who has grown in the game this season.
