On a bright, sunny afternoon Trafford MV faced off against Liverpool St Helens for the second time in as many weeks in what turned out to be a frustrating encounter. The game, which saw both teams exchange momentum throughout, was ultimately decided by a more dominant second-half performance from LSH.

The match began with both sides evenly matched, each demonstrating solid enough attack and defence. LSH were the first to break the deadlock, scoring an early try from a driving maul. Trafford responded well, gaining a foothold in the game through some impressive phase play that saw pressure on LSH. Adam Mason, receiving the ball on the left, was taken high right on their line. The referee quickly awarded a penalty try to Trafford, and the LSH player sent to the sin-bin with a yellow card. Numerical advantage pressed home and MV scored 2 really good tries. At the break MV held a narrow but deserved 21-19 lead, having shown good defensive resilience and good attacking shape.

The second half began with LSH looking to take control of the game. They enjoyed the lion’s share of possession and territory putting MV increasingly under pressure. Their territorial dominance finally told with two tries. Trafford fought back, scoring a bonus-point interception try from Luke O’Shea that briefly closed the gap. LSH quickly regained their advantage, finishing the match with two further tries to seal victory.

While Trafford's efforts were commendable, it was LSH who ultimately proved to be the stronger side on the day. Their territorial dominance and offloading in the tackle, especially in the second half were the decisive factors in the game. Despite the loss MV can take pride in the competitive nature of our performance.

Luke O’Shea was Player of the Match for MV with 2 well taken tries. Final score 43-28 to LSH. Next up is Didsbury Toc H at home this Saturday 13th.
