Please see details below advised by Phils wife Trisha,
Phil's funeral is on Friday 20th at 11.45am at the Methodist Church on Dale Road, Darley Dale, Derbyshire. Then onto the Red Lion at Stanedge for his wake.
We are raising money in memory of Phil for Ashgate Hospice, who cared for him during his last few weeks of life. All the staff at the hospice were exceptionally wonderful to us and made Phil comfortable, pain free and peaceful.
In 2017, Phil was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and fought a strong battle, undertaking a major whipple operation and chemotherapy. He enjoyed a further 7 years living his life to the full, but unfortunately, the cancer returned earlier this year, bringing his battle to an end  on 17 August 2024.
Not sure if you know but we (me, Cameron and his girlfriend) are doing a sky dive for Ashgate Hospice on 27th Sept.  Cameron is very scared!! but he's going to do it. Please see the link below. Many thanks. Xx

Kind regards
Trisha Wardle
It is with sadness the Club advises of the passing away of former player Phil Wardle.

Phil played for Metrovicks during the 70's - 90's through the teams including a number of 1st XV games playing predominantly in the second row.

He lived locally at the time around the Lymm and Bolton areas but in recent years made his home in Matlock, Derbyshire with his wife Trisha.

Phil made it to club events over the years when he could, though distance was a hindrance. His last appearance was at the Centenary Dinner.

Phil fought a strong battle with illness over recent years and it returned earlier this year finally bringing the battle to an end just a few days ago.

We send our sincere condolences to Trisha, family and friends at this time.

We will, of course, advise on funeral arrangements when known.
