It is with great sadness that we advise of the unexpected passing of Ken O'Connell.

Many of our older members will remember Ken as a very affable, larger than life character in more ways than one.

Ken was a big, athletic rugby player and cricketer and represented Metrovicks, as we were then, in both sports. A powerful centre, with the build of a second row, Ken was known by us all as a huge player with a soft centre !

He was very likeable both on and off the pitch and was always good fun to be around.

Ken travelled a lot and spent much of his later years in Africa,

Ken lived his life to the full and enjoyed what he was doing. The people he was working for The VCFD Trust which is in the Cooks Islands, they are going to name this trust the Ken O'Connell Trust, they help fund medical needs in Africa and around the world, no person must suffer mentally or physically, Ken was part of humanitarian. Ken was well like in a lot of countries and will be sorely missed by everyone.

Ken lived most of his life in South Africa where he worked in bomb disposal, he did this for a lot of years working in different countries.

He died in Zambia.

We extend our condolences to sisters Dawn and Sharon and to all his extended family and many friends.

We will of course advise any further details in due course.
