Trafford MV Rugby Club enter this weekend in an enviable position for many local rugby clubs fielding 3 teams when many across the country are down to turning out a single team only. The Club are proud to be still providing social rugby for occasional players as well as a good level of competitive rugby for more committed players.
The club's 1st XV have experienced a tough season, having earned promotion last season, they have been just off the pace, losing 3 games by just a single point and therefore found themselves struggling in the lower echelons of the Counties 1 ADM Lancashire & Cheshire League. Two wins from the last three games have given some hope however and entering the final game of the season TMV will be going all out to secure an away win at Liverpool St Helens on Saturday ko 3.00pm.
Head coach Brian Collier is confident his team can do well next season, if they secure survival, having seen them competitive in most games. Strong defence is essential and a more clinical attack even more so in order to make their mark. First things first, on Grand National Day if you are having a bet, put your money on Trafford MV doing enough to stay up and keep their supporters happy.
Trafford's 2nd XV play at home against Rochdale and will be seeking a win to keep pressure on 3rd placed Warrington in the league. The team have played very well this season reaching a cup final and being just outside of the promotion places. Disappointingly Rochdale have now cried off this fixture - unable to field a team - so we have no home game on Saturday !
The clubs 3rd XV head to Littleborough for what is a winnable fixture - new players are always welcome at Trafford MV as the club provides excellent facilities for players of all abilities looking to enjoy their weekend of rugby.
With the Sun shining down on us Trafford MV Cricket Club have a busy 'Get Set' weekend as club volunteers prepare for the season ahead which opens on Sat 19th April. A new all weather wicket has been laid this week and in addition to 4 senior men's teams the club are introducing a Women's Softball Cricket team, an U9's youth team plus All Stars Cricket for 5-8 year olds. On Sunday the Club will be very busy hosting the Lancashire U12's Finals Day at MacPherson Park. For this event Lancashire RFU will be administering an admission charge for all entrants to the club (this is not a Trafford MV charge). If you come in your car PLEASE park in the spaces behind the clubhouse and on the grass where indicated to alleviate parking issues - if you can do not come in your car if at all possible. Thank You.
