A day where a lot of excitement was surrounding the evenings activities, we knew we had a job to do beforehand. Another weekend where we had some people out of position, we knew in the warm up it was about familiarising positions and roles to set us up for what we knew would be a very physical match.
Early on this would prove to be correct as Bolton built some phases and with a pick and go managed to get over the line to go 5-0 up. We didn't lose our heads though and after some fast-paced phases of our own, young Ollie Knighton went over the line for our first try to get the game to 7-5. This was the story of the first half really, a lot of strong defending from us keeping their pack at bay, and with us doing plenty of our work to build momentum and phases, we saw in the half 19-12 up, with some lovely tries from Jamie Parker.
The second half was a bit more of the same, again our defensive effort proving to be a brilliant weapon, with double tackles going in where necessary, and forcing turnovers. As the 2nd half progressed, we started to find some more gaps out wide and had some brilliant attacking play. Bolton didn't make it easy, but we never gave in and we put ourselves into a strong position with the score at 26-19. As Bolton got themselves over the line with another pick and go, we managed to find ourselves some momentum and with amazing runs from Tom Shepard, Ollie Knighton and Jamie Parker, we managed to get ourselves into a solid lead.
Special mention needs to go to Nico Picard who was brilliant on the day, and deserving of a try after his almost full-length run just being caught at the end. Still some uncertainty on the amount of conversions made, but a score of 38-26 was provided as the final score. A great win from a proper team performance - one to be proud of.
