Vale of Lune is always a tough place to go, and with all 3 teams at home they were always going be strong. That was slightly an understatement as all round they were one of the heaviest teams we've come up against.
Firstly, a huge shout out to all drivers for yesterday, that was a long round trip, that is appreciated from everybody, thank you.
We turned up to some unreal weather for a mid-October match, and with introductions made we had a short, sharp warm-up and were ready to kick off. Within the first few minutes we were shown what we would be up against for 80 minutes, a strong, heavy team running straight at us with a lot of power. Shortly after their first try, we realised where we would get most of our glory, our wide. Some lovely hands through the backs gave them space, and if not for a dodgy tackle Calvin would've been on the score sheet, but the infamous P Try struck and we got ourselves level at 7-7.
The momentum was firmly with Vale of Lune for a lot of the game, with their power proving too much for us at times. They were ahead by a few tries at HT. Unfortunately with what I suspect about 30-40kg weight difference, our scrum was not handling their pressure well, and they managed to disrupt our usually reliable line-out too, so it took some adapting from us with penalties. Relying on tap & go penalties a few times, we managed to get Spencer over the line twice, showing the pace to break tackles and the determination to go over.
I'm not overly disappointed in the result fellas, that was a team that were well drilled and were good at what they liked. Not one person gave up until the 80th minute and that's something to be proud of.
Another shout out to all the young lads making their first appearances in the seniors/2s, you lads have been a breath of fresh air into the squad. Onto next week.
Score: 63-19 loss Tries: P Try x1, S Bailey x2, MOTM: S Bailey
