It was a hard day at the office on Saturday for the 2XV who travelled away to Glossop. Glossop have a formidable home win record and Trafford travelled with 14 men so an uphill battle was expected. On arrival we were met by Trafford’s ex-assistant coach Clarky who was pulling on his boots for Glossop. Glossop loaned Trafford a prop so that both teams could play with 15 men.
The game started well, with Trafford building phases and recycling their own ball. Unfortunately Glossop were able to poach a turn over, run into space, and turn on the pace for their first try. This pattern continued with Trafford camped in the Glossop 22, but struggling to convert good possession and territory into points. Glossop then capitalised on turnovers and minor handling errors to score breakaway tries. After another lengthy period in the Glossop five metre, with the home team giving away four consecutive penalties, the referee eventually awarded a penalty try giving Trafford their only points when Glossop collapsed Trafford’s rolling maul from the line out.
When Trafford had the ball they played better team structure, but Glossop utilised their speed and size to great effect to come away with a deserved win. Hats off to the lads (including several colts who comprised almost half the Trafford team) who made the trip. We could not ask anymore of you.
The game ended a a 46-7 defeat for Trafford MV. Adam Whitworth picked up the Player of the Match award for TMV.
The result see's Trafford slip to 4th in the league behind Wigan, Eccles and Warrington respectively, with 3 games left to play.
