Trafford MV RFCC

10 - 26

(HT 10-14)

Wilmslow RUFC
Trafford MV welcomed Wilmslow to MacPherson Park on the back of an 85-16 away defeat earlier in the season, since then Trafford have consolidated and become a competitive outfit in the league.
Wilmslow opened the scoring early as good hands and pace from a young back line put them over in the left corner for a converted try 0 - 7. Trafford worked hard getting possession and establishing a strong forward presence in the game. As a result of a powerful driving maul hooker Craig Collier was on hand to claim a try in response and Pat Eccles levelled the score with the conversion 7 - 7. Disappointingly Wilmslow struck back almost immediately breaking out of their own half and scoring under the posts and converting 7 - 14. Trafford were playing well and with half time approaching Pat Eccles eased a penalty kick over to narrow score at 10-14 at the break.

The visitors scored twice in the second half cutting a good line initially to cross under the posts again and convert 10-21 and then again with the very last play of the game as Trafford ran out of cover defence on the right touchline for an unconverted Wilmslow try.

In a fiesty game the referee did well to keep a lid on things with Wilmslow getting the only yellow of the day despite a number of flare ups. Trafford can be pleased with their discipline keeping control and giving away minimal penalties.

Joe Walls collected the Player Of The Match award for Trafford playing out of position in the centre and having a strong game in both attack and defence.

Trafford MVs next game is due to be away against league leaders West Park (St Helens) on Saturday Feb 1st. All support is welcome.
