Trafford MV 1st XV found out what life can be like at the higher level as they travelled to Didsbury Toc H and encountered a very in form side. With a number of changes to their side Trafford were conscious they could be up for a fight but what the encountered was a clinical Didsbury side who had pace and handling in abundance. From the opening whistle Trafford's defence was under fire and they conceded within the opening minutes under their posts and the scoreboard started ticking over at regular intervals.
On the day Trafford were just not a match for the home side and although the forward pack competed well for ball as soon as it got outside of the forwards the alarm bells were ringing. Trafford conceded 13 tries in total as Didsbury strolled home 80 - 17. Trafford grasped at lifelines but it was never enough, they picked up 3 consolation scores with 2 close range driving efforts from Paul Davenport plus a penalty try for their efforts.
James Webster collected the Player of the Match for Trafford and the team were pleased to give a debut appearance to yet another of their young players Ollie Jones who replaced captain Pat Eccles who suffered a thigh injury. Trafford also collected a yellow card for Sam Wilson which didn't help their cause.
On a broader front Trafford MV fielded their 3rd XV for the first time this season and they made the very short journey to face Sale FC at Carrington. Trafford had a very young side which is testament to the youth set up that is in place at the club. Captain Jordan Hughes led the team into action and Trafford MV played well across the park. Tries came at regular intervals from across the team Dale Beardsall, Zak Gardner and Ben Wainwright got 2 each others came from Jacob Grant, Jordan Hughes and Liam Brimble a total of 9 tries of which Jason Alexander converted 2 and Callum Boys 4 kicks. Player of the Match went to Dale Beardsall. It was good to see a further 3 young players making their senior debuts while stepping up from the Senior Colts XV - Jacob Grant, Callum Boyd and Alex Royle-Cross - well done to those boys. The final score was a credit to the Trafford MV team coming home 21-57 winners against their local rivals.
This coming weekend will be a very busy one at Trafford MV's MacPherson Park as 3 of the Clubs teams face the same opposition, Broughton Park, on the same day Saturday 14th. Trafford MV Women's XV will kick off at 12.00 noon while Trafford MV 1st XV kick off at 3.00pm as do the 3rd XV. Traffords 2nd XV hit the road North and head to Rossendale.
